Ethernet vs Wi-Fi for streaming

What Ethernet buys you

A dedicated pair (or more) of copper with no contention from phones, IoT bulbs, and neighbors. Latency is steadier. Packet loss from microwave ovens goes away.

If the TV or box has a jack, use it for the primary living-room device. Wi-Fi can remain for phones.

When Wi-Fi is enough

A 5 GHz or 6 GHz signal with a clear path and modern router often carries 4K. The failure mode is placement: stick inside a metal TV stand, dual-band router steering you to 2.4 GHz, or DFS channels that drop.

Adapters and powerline

USB-C Ethernet docks on dongles can work if the hardware supports them. Powerline adapters vary with home wiring; treat them as an experiment, not a promise.
