What internet speed do you need for streaming?

Planning numbers, not guarantees

A common planning range is several megabits per second for HD and substantially more for 4K, plus headroom for other devices. Exact bitrates depend on the encoder and title. We do not publish fake “always 4K” claims.

Speed tests measure a short burst to a test server. Video needs minutes of stable throughput. A 300 Mbps test can still buffer if Wi-Fi retries eat the airtime.

Cloud backups, game downloads, and video calls compete. Schedule large uploads away from kickoff if you care about a live event you are authorized to watch.

Upload still matters

Some players and remote-support tools use upstream. Extremely asymmetric cable plans can feel fine until a video call and a 4K stream overlap.
