What is an EPG?
Electronic program guide
An EPG is schedule metadata: program names, times, and sometimes descriptions. Players overlay that data on a channel list. XMLTV is a common file style.
Why the guide might be blank
Missing URL, blocked download, timezone mismatch, or a playlist that has no matching channel IDs. A blank guide does not always mean video is down.
Not a cable operator guide
Accuracy depends on the metadata source. It is not proof of retransmission consent or a Nielsen-rated lineup.
