What is an M3U playlist?

The file format

M3U is a simple text playlist. Extended M3U can include titles and extra tags. M3U8 usually means the playlist is UTF-8 and often points at HLS-style media playlists.

A player reads the list, then requests the media URLs. That is all. The file does not encrypt video or prove you paid a studio.

How services use playlists

Some setups give you a playlist URL that stays updated. You add that URL in a player. Protect it like a password. Anyone with the URL may be able to use the same access.

Misuse

Public “free M3U” dumps are frequently stolen credentials or illegal streams. Do not import playlists from random websites. We will not help you hunt those lists.
